There are several advantages to useing this tool, which was originally Etherpad before they were purcahsed by Google. People don't need accounts to use use it, and you can type anywhere on the page - this is used more for note taking, brainstorming or collaborative writing. The original Etherpad programmers have now added these features to Google Docs, but people need to have a Google Account before they can access a shared document.
